Our research in published in PRL

Our paper “First Search for Ultralight Dark Matter Using a Magnetically Levitated Particle” published on Physical Review Letters.

QuCoM members from Leiden University collaborated with a theory group at Rice University on a new search for Ultralight Dark Matter using a magnetically levitating mass. The levitating magnet is a very sensitive force sensor (aN/rtHz regime), the gathered data was interpreted in a new direction by Christopher Tunnell and Dorian Amaral from Rice University. We calculated a limit on this type of Dark Matter, which is not world leading (yet). Nevertheless gives us a new type of sensor in a toolbox for hunting Dark Matter. With the proposed improvements, which the authors think are reasonable within a few years, the limit would be world leading and unique in its kind!
